Equality California Endorses Holly Mitchell for 26th State Senate District
(Los Angeles) Equality California is proud to announce the endorsement of Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell in her race for the 26th State Senate District. Mitchell, who currently represents the 54th District in the California Assembly, is running for a seat vacated by former State Senator Curren Price, who was elected to serve the Los Angeles City Council in May. The 26th Senate district encompasses part of Los Angeles County, including all of Culver City and View Park-Windsor Hills, as well as parts of Los Angeles, Ladera Heights, and Westmont. The special election is slated to take place on September 17th.
“Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell has been a staunch ally for the LGBT community and earned a 100% pro-equality ranking in 2012,” said John O’Connor executive director of Equality California. “EQCA is committed to strengthening political power for the LGBT community and that includes electing allies like Holly Mitchell. We look forward to working with her in the State Senate.”
"Civil rights and support for the needs of families are priorities for me as they are for the LGBT community today, so I look forward to continuing to work with the community toward full equality."
Mitchell has a proven track record as a strong supporter of full equality. Mitchell supported EQCA’s entire pro-equality legislative package in 2012 and has continued her support on behalf of LGBT Californians into 2013. Mitchell currently chairs the California Legislative Black Caucus.
The Equality California Political Action Committee endorses viable candidates running for statewide offices and the state legislature who have a proven track record of supporting equal rights and legal protections for LGBT Californians and who are committed to advancing these goals in their capacity as elected officials.
Equality California (EQCA) is the largest statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy organization in California. Over the past decade, Equality California has strategically moved California from a state with extremely limited legal protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people to a state with some of the most comprehensive human rights protections in the nation. Equality California has partnered with legislators to successfully sponsor more than 90 pieces of pro-equality legislation. EQCA continues to advance equality through legislative advocacy, electoral work, public education and community empowerment. www.eqca.org
